Custom Easter eggs that match your decor

Hello Decor Friend

Easter eggs are a staple of spring decor, but instead of the usual dyeing methods, why not try something a little more elegant? Decoupaging Easter eggs with pretty napkins and Mod Podge is an easy and creative way to achieve a custom, high-end look. Whether you prefer delicate florals, vintage-inspired patterns, or modern prints, this technique allows you to personalize your eggs to match your decor style.

What You’ll Need:

  • White eggs (real, blown-out, wooden, or ceramic)- I suggest using wooden- they ar igthweight and mess free.

  • Decorative paper napkins (floral, toile, chinoiserie, etc.)

  • Mod Podge (or diluted white glue)

  • A small paintbrush or sponge brush

  • Scissors

  • Tweezers (optional)

Step-by-Step Guide to Decoupaging Easter Eggs

1. Prepare Your EggsIf using real eggs, make sure they are hard-boiled or hollowed out and completely dry before decorating.

Designer Tip

For a longer-lasting option, wooden or ceramic eggs work beautifully and can be reused year after year.

2. Separate the Napkin LayersMost decorative napkins have two or three thin layers. Carefully peel away the top printed layer and discard the plain white backing. This ensures the napkin adheres smoothly without bubbling.

3. Cut Out Your DesignCut out small floral patterns, intricate motifs, or even larger sections, depending on your desired look. Smaller pieces are easier to apply and reduce wrinkles.

4. Apply Mod Podge to the EggUsing a small brush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to a section of the egg. Work in small areas to prevent the glue from drying too quickly.

5. Place the Napkin on the EggGently lay the napkin piece over the Mod Podge-coated section. Use a dry brush or tweezers to smooth it down, pressing lightly to remove any air bubbles or wrinkles.

6. Seal with Another Layer of Mod PodgeOnce the napkin is in place, carefully brush another thin layer of Mod Podge over it to seal. Be gentle to avoid tearing the delicate napkin. Allow the egg to dry completely before handling.

7. Repeat for Full Coverage or a Collage EffectIf you want a fully covered egg, continue adding small napkin pieces until the entire surface is decorated. For a more artistic look, layer different patterns or mix and match designs.

How to Display Your Decoupaged Easter Eggs

Once your eggs are dry and beautifully customized, it’s time to show them off! Here are a few ways to incorporate them into your decor:

  • Place them in a decorative bowl as a coffee table centerpiece.

  • Nestle them into a spring wreath for a charming front-door accent.

  • Arrange them in an egg crate or small baskets for a farmhouse-inspired touch.

  • Use them as place card holders for an Easter brunch tablescape.
