Outdoor Decorating Mistakes to Avoid

Hello Decor Friends,

Are you spending time outside? Can I give you a few tips as you begin to set up your outdoor spaces.

1. Don’t overlook lighting

Outdoor lighting can easily elevate your backyard or patio. Warm ambient light makes a space feel cozy and intentional. Think about using outdoor solar table lights, string lights and lanterns.

2. Don’t skip out on accessories

Outdoor seating can be a consuming endevor, but don’t stop there. Add throw pillows, lanterns and other beautiful accessories, like pretty pots, garden art, outdoor rugs and florals. A space is not complete until you add some of your personal touches with accessories.

3. Treating outdoor decor separately

You want your indoor spaces to flow into your outdoor spaces. Think of your outdoor spaces as an extension of your home. Disrupting the flow of your home by introducing a totally different style can be visually jarring

4. Not using plants

You know my motto, “just add green”. This translates to your outdoor spaces also. Nothing says backyard sitting like smelling and enjoying gorgeous pots of florals,

5. Packing too much on your patio

Overcrowding is another common mistake. You need space to move around your patio. Don’t jam “all the things” into a space.  For example, if you want to lounge, ensure you have comfy seating. You want to eat outdoors, ensure you have a lovely outdoor dinning table. If space does not allow for both, prioritize. Your outdoor spaces are rooms without walls. Treat them with the same restraint you have indoors.

There you have it. My best tips for creating your outdoor oasis,

Until Next time,

~Tatum
