Hello Decor Friends,

Let’s talk about one of the most satisfying spaces to design—the bed! A beautifully styled bed is the centerpiece of a bedroom, setting the tone for comfort and style. Whether you lean modern, cozy cottage, or timeless traditional, there’s an art to dressing a bed so it feels layered, intentional, and effortlessly put together. Today, I’m breaking down how to style your bed like a stylist in just a few easy steps.

Step 1: Start with the Basics—Quality Bedding

Before you think about color or pillows, it all begins with good foundation pieces. Invest in quality sheets (think 100% cotton or linen), and don’t skip the mattress protector—it helps keep things fresh and extends the life of your bed. When it comes to color, crisp white sheets are classic and always look hotel-worthy, but soft neutrals like oatmeal or pale gray can add warmth and sophistication.A finishing touch, iron or lightly steam your sheets and duvet cover before making the bed. That smooth, tailored finish instantly elevates the look—just like a perfectly pressed shirt.

Step 2: Layer for Luxury

Layering is the secret ingredient to a stylist-approved bed. Start with your sheets, add a lightweight quilt or coverlet next, and then top it with a fluffy duvet or comforter. The trick? Fold the duvet about a third of the way down to reveal the quilt underneath. It creates instant depth and a cozy, “come sink into me” look.

Mixing textures is also key. Pair a crisp cotton quilt with a soft linen duvet, or add a chunky knit throw for a bit of contrast. The combination of smooth, nubby, and plush fabrics gives the bed that designer touch.

Step 3: Pile on the Pillows (But With Purpose)

There’s a fine line between full and overstuffed. Start with your sleeping pillows stacked or standing at the back. Then add two to three Euro shams (those large square pillows) to provide height and structure. Next, layer your standard shams in front, followed by one or two decorative pillows for personality.

Designer Tip

For a queen bed, three Euros and two decorative pillows work beautifully. For a king, try three Euros, two standards, and a long lumbar pillow across the front. It’s balanced and visually pleasing without feeling like a pillow avalanche.

Step 4: Add a Finishing Touch

The final step is what makes the bed look truly styled. Drape a throw blanket casually across the foot of the bed—nothing too perfect! Fold it neatly for a tailored look or let it spill over one corner for a more relaxed vibe. Choose a throw with a contrasting color or texture to make it pop.

This is also where you can tie in your bedroom’s palette. A soft blush throw against neutral bedding, or a deep navy against crisp white, gives your bed a finished, stylist-worthy feel.

Bonus Tip: Keep It Inviting

Remember, the goal isn’t perfection—it’s comfort with style. A well-dressed bed should invite you to climb in, not just admire from afar. Play with what feels good to you, and don’t be afraid to swap layers seasonally. Lighter linen in summer, a cozy quilt and wool throw in winter—it keeps your space fresh and in tune with the seasons.

So go ahead, grab your favorite throw, fluff those pillows, and style your bed like the stylists do—you’ll be amazed how much more polished (and cozy) your room feels.
